Someone should have warned me about Western Screech Owls. As I was finding my way through the woods (aka lost), I began asking the animals if they could help me find my way back. The squirrels had nothing to say since I didn't have any nuts to offer, typical. I also asked a few birds, but they happened to be migrants just passing through.

I sat down, took in a deep breath... and right before I could collect myself (aka yell for help at the top of my lungs), the tree directly in front of me moved....

Surprisingly, the owl wasn't as irritated as I'd be if someone woke me up mid-sleep. I tried to explain my situation, but he kept falling asleep. They have something like the best hearing ever, so there was no need to raise my voice. I continued my story, hoping he heard enough and wanted to help me out.

Sleepy in a hollow, the owl began giving me directions to find my way home. They were detailed but easy to remember. The only bad thing is that it took him 30 minutes to tell me because he couldn't stop falling asleep!
